What to write when everyone signs
Signing a group card is its own small problem: you're writing in public, after five other people, and "Happy birthday!" has already been used. Real examples that solve it:

One specific thing only you would know beats a longer, more general message every time — and it stops the card reading like a list of near-identical good wishes.
Group card etiquette: the questions everyone actually has
The rules of a group card are unwritten, so here they are. We measured the 1129 example messages in our own writing guides to settle the length question: the average is 16.7 words — about two short lines — and that's a good target when you're one voice among many.
Read what's already there before you write. The whole failure mode of a group card is six versions of the same sentence, and thirty seconds of scrolling prevents it. If the obvious thing has been said, say the second-most obvious thing — it's usually more interesting anyway.
Sign with the name they know you by. "Jonathan Weller, Finance" is correct and cold; "Jon from Finance" is what the recipient will actually recognise. And match your length to your closeness — a warm two lines from a colleague you see weekly is right, while a paragraph from someone who joined last month can feel odd, however kindly meant.
Two things worth getting right as the organiser. Give people a deadline and say what the card is for, because "sign this" with no context produces exactly the generic messages you don't want. And don't chase the last two signatures past the occasion itself — a card that arrives on the day with nine messages beats a complete one that arrives late.
